On Friday evening, Laurus Trust Chief Financial Officer Wendy Mason was named School Business Leader of the Year at the Tes School Awards 2022, in London.

The awards ceremony is an annual event celebrating the work of schools, teachers and non-teaching staff across the country. Wendy was nominated by colleagues and fellow professionals for her compassion and commitment to ‘levelling the playing field’ for state educated young people, she leads a high-performing Central Services team, who continuously deliver value for money across the Trust’s family of schools.

On winning the award Wendy said:

“I am delighted to be awarded the School Business Leader of the Year award. I moved into the education sector seven years ago, wanting to use my commercial, financial and project management experience in a new field. Every day brings such a variety of different tasks but, like all my incredibly talented colleagues at the Laurus Trust, I’m inspired by the knowledge that every decision and action I take plays a part in improving the opportunities for our young people.”

This was the first in-person ceremony for three years, due to the pandemic. There were twenty categories on the night, each receiving a high volume of nominations, from schools across the country.

Judging Panel Member Hilary Goldsmith said: “There was evidence of all the different ways she’s made the whole Trust better, joining up of those services across the schools. It was about the person rather than the role, and that sense of trust and that this one inspirational individual is holding so much together.”
