At the Laurus Trust, music plays a vital role in enriching our students’ educational experience. We are committed to offering engaging, inspiring and cost‑effective opportunities for every child to take part in music making.
Working in partnership with organisations across the Greater Manchester and Blackburn with Darwen Music Hub (GMBD), we provide a variety of tuition packages delivered by experienced and talented musicians who are passionate about nurturing young people’s musical potential.
We facilitate 1:1 and shared tuition in school across a wide range of instruments, including:
- Brass: Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba and more
- Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass
- Woodwind: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe, Bassoon and more
- Guitars: Acoustic, Classical, Electric and Bass
- Piano and Keyboard
- Voice
- Drum Kit and Percussion
- Steel Pan
These lessons are arranged directly with the lesson provider and are directly billed to parents and carers.

All instrument lessons are 20 minutes long and take place during the school day on a rotating timetable, ensuring minimal disruption to curriculum learning.
Students can hire an instrument for the duration of their studies. All participating students are encouraged to join school ensembles, with many progressing into the school orchestra.
Thanks to the incredible support of AL Elevation, we can also offer fully funded small-group tuition for beginners in brass, string and woodwind instruments – an amazing opportunity to learn, play and shine!

The scheme is for students in Years 7, 8 and 9 who are beginners in strings, brass and woodwind instruments.
Is my child guaranteed a place on the scheme?
There are a limited number of spaces for certain instruments. If spaces are full, your child’s name will be added to the waiting list.
How does direct billed tuition work?

When does tuition take place?
Lessons are 20 minutes long and take place weekly during the school day on a rotating timetable. This ensures that students do not regularly miss the same class. Every effort is made to ensure that tuition lessons are delivered at the most appropriate time.
Does my child need to own the instrument they are studying?
No, some instruments may be hired from the lesson provider where appropriate. More information will be available after sign-up.
Will my child take part in ensembles?
All students who receive tuition are encouraged to take part in the ensemble that is relevant to their chosen instrument.
Will my child be examined on their instrument?
We encourage all students receiving tuition to work towards graded assessments, but this is not a formal requirement.
