The Early Career Teacher Entitlement (ECTE) is a two‑year programme designed to equip Early Career Teachers (ECTs) with the knowledge, skills and support they need at the beginning of their career.
At the Laurus Institute, we deliver the ECTE through the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT), offering a comprehensive ECT programme that combines expert training with ongoing professional support.
Choosing the Laurus Institute and NIoT as your training provider will ensure that your ECTs are given the support they need to become confident, capable classroom practitioners. The programme is flexible, relevant and focused on helping teachers establish strong foundations from the very start.
What makes the ECT programme unique?
The National Institute of Teaching’s ECT programme offers a number of unique benefits:
- Built-in flexibility and wellbeing – regular wellbeing pulse surveys monitor ECT experiences and help provide timely support. A flexible module order also allows schools to align the programme with their professional development priorities.
- Contextual learning – A blend of online and in-person delivery minimises disruption while maximising impact. The programme focuses on practical application through targeted mentoring cycles of observation, feedback and reflection, rather than extensive reading.
- Enhanced mentor support – Comprehensive training helps mentors develop coaching expertise without creating administrative burden. Phase-specific resources and expert sessions further support effective ECT development.
- Research-informed design – Shaped by insights from the NIoT research team, including studies on rural and coastal schools, the programme has been designed to respond to the realities of different settings. Year 1 builds on ITT foundations, while Year 2 deepens strategic application and career development.
- Subject, phase and setting specificity – All self-study is phase-specific and includes specific diagnostics and self-study for those working in specialist SEND provision. Programme materials are highly contextualised, consistently relevant and free from unnecessary repetition.
