The Laurus Trust is proud to be leading the Primary Fluency Project for the Department for Education. The project is fully funded by the DfE and completely free for schools to engage with.
The main aim of the project is to offer an evidence-led, integrated approach for teaching oracy, reading and writing that helps teachers and leaders to develop the fluency of their pupils and improve their reading and writing outcomes at the end of key stage two.
At the heart of this evidence-led, integrated approach is a Fluency Framework that has been designed to integrate the teaching of oracy, reading and writing in a coherent and progressive way.
The framework maps out oracy, reading and writing objectives, by year group from Pre-School to Year 6. It exemplifies how these objectives can be taught through different pedagogical approaches.
Underpinning the framework is a professional development offer that can be accessed online. The offer comprises a series of modules to explain how the Fluency Framework can be used and adapted to meet the needs of individual schools and pupils.
Both the framework and the professional development offer have been quality assured by Alexandra Park Research School which is part of a network of schools that support the use of evidence to improve teaching practice. They are also promoted by the English Hubs network.
