The Manchester Evening News’ 2018 Real Schools Guide has again named Cheadle Hulme High School as the best state-funded secondary in the whole of Stockport.

The MEN guide, published this week, uses a combination of data about schools across Greater Manchester to form a full picture about exactly how well schools perform – not focusing solely on exam results but a whole range of measures.

Data compares everything from pupils’ attainment and the quality of the teaching to when the school was lasted inspected and teacher to pupil ratio.

The MEN notes that not only is CHHS the best in Stockport, it is also the most in demand with places being oversubscribed each year.

Executive Headteacher Linda Magrath says: “At the heart of our drive for results is our firm belief that for many years there hasn’t been a level playing field for students educated in the state sector, compared to those who are educated independently. As Cheadle Hulme High School shows, that ‘norm’ can be challenged.

“We take our commitment to be ‘unashamedly academic’ very seriously, but that never comes at the expense of offering our students a warm, nurturing environment.

“As delighted as I am by our results, I am equally proud of the support shown by our staff to help our students become well-rounded individuals, and of how our young people view their role in the wider community.”
