Academic Physical Education
Physical Education (PE) combines declarative and procedural knowledge to help students make informed decisions about their own healthy active lives. This powerful knowledge is delivered through a broad and balanced curriculum that encourages students to be physically active and healthy, both now and in later life. Our curriculum promotes a love of physical activity and the confidence to participate.
For GCSE and A Level PE, students also benefit from our partnership with Loughborough University. They take part in lab‑based learning with university specialists, deepening their understanding by linking theory to real‑world practice and gaining insight into higher education at one of the world’s leading universities for sport.
Sporting Electives Programme
Our sporting electives and extra-curricular activities are designed to foster participation, build self-confidence, and develop essential skills such as teamwork and leadership. We aim to broaden our students’ horizons and instil a belief that anything is achievable.
All Laurus secondary schools offer a consistent blend of traditional and innovative sporting electives. As a Trust, we place significant value on experiences beyond the classroom. This commitment is reflected in our ability to engage over 30 specialist coaches across our schools, ensuring our provision is both purposeful and impactful. Our coaching team includes ex-Olympians, world champions, and current professional athletes.
In the last academic year, 94% of our Key Stage 3 students took part in our sporting offer – an impressive figure that stands 44% above the national average.
Fixtures
Our schools field a wide variety of sports teams that compete at local, regional, and national levels, with over 3,000 competitive fixtures held during the previous academic year.
We also hosted 12 varsity events, where Laurus schools competed against each other for trophies, badges, and pride. These fixtures help students feel part of the wider Trust community while enjoying healthy competition.
Sports Tours
Every two years we run a Trust sports tour for students in Years 9 and 10, offering the chance to travel within Europe, experience new cultures, train, and compete against international teams.
