Professional Development

Learning and development at every stage of your career

We are fortunate enough to work in an environment where learning is at the heart of everything we do.

It is important for staff to feel empowered to seek learning out, ask for development opportunities and make them happen. We provide a range of in-house training courses and access to professionally accredited qualifications, to help staff improve their skills and knowledge across specialist areas.

Whether you’re looking to learn a new skill, aspire to be a manager or complete a degree apprenticeship, there is something for everyone.

Apprenticeships

The Apprenticeship Levy helps us develop and upskill employees across the Trust.

Funding is available for a wide range of qualifications, from Level 2 (GCSE) to Level 7 (master’s), across areas such as Facilities Management and Professional Coaching. Whether you’re building confidence in your current role or working towards something new, apprenticeships offer a practical and supported way to progress.

Master’s and Doctorates

The flagship programmes of the Laurus Institute continue to be the master’s and doctorates in Education. The aim of these programmes is to develop teachers’ research literacy with the aim of improving their classroom practice.

Chartered Teacher Programme

The Laurus Trust is proud to be a founding accredited learning partners for the Chartered Teacher Programme (CTeach).

Chartered Teacher Status represents the highest standard of professional excellence. It recognises the knowledge, skills and behaviours of excellent teachers and school leaders, as well as their commitment to evidence-informed practice and ongoing professional development.

As a CPD Partner of CTeach, we support teachers to complete the individual Chartered Teacher assessments units. This provides a valuable opportunity for teachers to analyse, review and strengthen their practice. The standard is intentionally rigorous yet accessible to teachers and leaders in any phase, subject or school type.

Action Research Communities (ARC)

Action Research Communities (ARCs) are groups of teachers who come together to develop their understanding and investigate a particular aspect of classroom practice. They carry out research as a team over the course of an academic year.

The action research topics are linked to the school development plan, but may also help to inform priorities for the following year. Throughout the year, the groups meet to review progress and agree next steps. There are also opportunities to feed back to other staff within the school.

Further Professional Learning (FPL)

Further Professional Learning (FPL) sessions take place throughout the academic year. The primary focus of these meetings is to enable interested staff to stay up to date and to discuss current classroom practice. A small number of sessions will also cover some of the wider work taking place within the school.

Each session can be seen as a ‘think piece’ – an introduction to a particular area of work, strategy, or best practice. Action Research Communities (ARCs) and FPLs form the core of the Professional Learning offer for teachers.
