At the Laurus Trust we understand that joining a new school can be a daunting prospect, regardless of whether you are new to education or an experienced teacher or support staff. In order to enable a smooth transition to life at the Laurus Trust we have devised a coordinated induction programme of support to enable new staff to hit the ground running.
New teachers are invited to an induction day prior to starting where we convey the vision and ethos of the Laurus Trust, this provides a great opportunity to network with colleagues in a similar situation and meet with some key staff. A member of the senior leadership team coordinates the induction of all new teachers and remains a key contact throughout their first year and beyond. A Professional Learning programme is designed with sessions targeted specifically at new teaching staff, who are encouraged to attend regular sessions.
Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) at the Laurus Trust receive tailored individual support to enable them to meet the challenges that the NQT year often presents. Each new NQT is invited to an induction day prior to their start date. This day focuses on understanding the vision and ethos of the Lurus Trust and the context of the school, as well an opportunity to understand some key procedures and policies, such as behaviour and rewards. All NQTs have a dedicated Induction Mentor and Curriculum Mentor with whom they meet regularly to ensure that all NQTs are fully supported and on target to achieve their individual goals. Recently Qualified Teachers (RQTs) also provide support offering guidance and advice from a different perspective and sharing their experience of the year. NQTs have specific dedicated Professional Learning sessions throughout the academic year. The trust also works with an external appropriate body which quality assures the process of NQT induction.

I feel that hard work is recognised, valued and appreciated by the Laurus Trust and opportunities to further develop professionally are promoted and encouraged. These opportunities echo the ethos of facilitating the improvement of all, so not only the students are exceeding what they thought they could achieve but so are the staff.
